Carmel Saunders brings over 25 years of expertise in the behavioral health sector to Lake, with proficiency in psychiatric assessment, crisis intervention, medication administration, and interdisciplinary treatment planning, all grounded in evidence-based psychiatric care. As an ANCC board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, she is dedicated to enhancing patient outcomes, mentoring staff, and leading high-performing teams in both inpatient and community-based environments. Carmel is also skilled in dual diagnosis, substance use, and complex patient care.
Carmel's professional journey commenced after she graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Health Institute of Louisville in 1997. She went on to become a Registered Nurse in 2003 through Spencerian College in Louisville. In 2007, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University in Louisville, and in 2025, she obtained her Master of Science in Nursing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN.
Throughout her career, Carmel has held roles such as RN, Director of Nursing, Clinical Manager, and Nurse Manager, in addition to owning her practice that provided Supportive Community Living and Adult Day Training services. Her extensive experience and education position Carmel as a seasoned provider within the mental health community.
Carmel is licensed to practice in the state of Indiana and sees patients in-person and virtually at our Jeffersonville location.
